Let's Talk Filler!
Kylie Jenner is relaunching her brand Kylie Cosmetics today. No, this obviously is in no way a sponsored post but man would that be a dream. When Kylie first dropped her lip kits I would buy every single one, every single time. I had quite a collection at one point, and it didn’t even matter the shade. I literally bought blue lipsticks and now I look back and realize I never even wore them. Kylie is known for being a mom, businesswomen, and playing a big part in the beauty industry. Of course another thing Kylie Jenner is known for is lip filler. Her lips were often magazine headlines and even talked about on TV. I’m not sure why people went so crazy but in today’s world filler are become so normal
I have been getting lip filler for a while. I’ve been getting my lips done since before people actually talked about getting their lips done. It used to be something someone would do and they wouldn’t want to admit it. I’ve always been forthcoming about the filler I would get and luckily my lips for the most part looked pretty natural. Lip injections are getting so popular and I figured I would share about my experience and touch on the questions I’m asked.
To start off let’s talk about what we are actually injecting into our lips. Back in the day people would get permanent filler in their lips but today the more common type of lip fillers are temporary. Two most popular types of filler are Restylane and Juvederm. I usually get Juvederm, but I have gotten Restylane once. I feel like for me Juvederm lasted longer and gave me more of the look I wanted. Both Juvederm and Restylane contain hyaluronic acid. I would say in my opinion Restylane is a little more firm to the touch and Juvederm has tended to last longer for me.
If you decided to get any type of lip injections there are a few things to expect after. You will most likely have some bruising. I bruise pretty bad but luckily I’m able to throw on a lipstick and you can’t really tell. I’m not sure if lipstick use is recommended after injections, but it has not seemed to be a problem for me. Sometimes with filler you will get little lumps or buildup of the product and it feels like a little ball in your lip. Depending on your lip technician/doctor they may advise to massage them after some time or to just let them heal. For me, I don’t rub them out and normally the filler will just settle. I did have one bad experience where I had two lumps in the center of my upper lip and to me it made my lip look like a butt. Fortunately, over time the filler went down and my butt crack lips smoothed out. (See the 3rd picture down).
People often ask about the pain with lip injections and how bad it hurts. Every time I’ve gotten filler I have been numbed before the procedure. I’ve always been numbed with Lidocaine, so I don’t know if that is what is used across all facilities. The numbing does help but there is quite some pressure with the injection. I get poked more along the lining of my lips and I think it hurts a little more compared to the middle. All in all it does hurt but not bad enough I would quit getting it done.
Are fillers safe? Well, depends who you are asking. The FDA does approve the hyaluronic fillers I mentioned. I have seen girls ordering products from other countries and finding technicians to inject or or worse they inject it themselves. I highly recommend going to a reputable source, so you know what is going in your body and that they have experience. It is true some people get obsessed with lip filler and they completely over do it, but to each their own. When getting any work done with your own body you know their is always a chance of risk or a bad experience/reaction .
Another big question I get is how much does getting filler cost. Depending on where you go and the location all prices can be different. Normally I pay about $600 per syringe. I have been to places that will store your syringe if you don’t use it all and others that will charge you regardless. In this area I live I have seen syringes ranging from $450-$700 but if you find a technician/doctor you love they normally will have specials or packages. Filler can be expensive to maintain, but when it comes to the price of beauty what isn’t expensive. When it comes to maintenance every person is different because filler metabolizes in the body over time. For me I have had several breaks between my injections because of pregnancy and nursing. Normally, I like to get half a syringe every 6-8 months. If I am waiting longer I’ll do one whole syringe but I have not tried anything more.
This post is just based off my own experience and knowledge. I am in no way or shape a doctor or someone you should take medical advice from. If you choose to get lip injections you are injecting something into your body and it is important for you to decide it that is going to be okay for you. If you are totally against filler or beauty enhancements that is completely fine and you don’t have to get them. I will say getting my lips done has significantly boosted my confidence and I am much happier with my lips now. I have included a picture of my biological lips and then some progress after I enhanced them. If you have any questions I am always here!
